Olan Mills awesomeness

Today, Suzanne sent around the most hilarious e-mail featuring old Olan Mills photos with appropriately snarky captions. The caption on the one to the left, for example, was "This photo isn't discolored. The '70s really were that orange."

Funny, that's exactly how I remember them.

    Oh lord yes... If only my mom and dad had a scanner. There is the most awful photo of my brothers and me on the wall of their living room. (I have threatened many times to leave the family and never come back unless they took that thing down. Now they're leaving it up just to spite me. And, I think, to entertain Randy.) Maybe I'll have them mail it to me, under the pretenses of your challenge!! Win-win! ;-)

    I know some people (who shall remain nameless, but they aren't family) who have a photo of themselves and it's been mounted on a wooden frame. The picture and frame are hideous. I wonder if they'd let me scan it for posterity? Probably not.

    I'll have to bring in my old church directory from at least 22 years ago. It's filled with Olan Mills photos. I was going to toss it, but it was so darn funny that I had to keep it.

    When I was in high school, Olan Mills people called our house weekly to try to get us to come in for a new family portrait. I told them repeatedly that my family didn't want one, but they kept calling.

    So one day when they called I thought up an impromtu lie, had a fake crying attack and told them that since my sister committed suicide we haven't been much in the mood for family portraits and WOULD THEY PUH-LEEZE for the sake of my mental health STOP HARASSING US?!?!?!?!?!

    The calls stopped.
